Punctuation missing for uses with only Commons link

Hello! I don't know enough about templates to know how to fix this, but I found that when this template is used, sometimes when selecting the option to fill in defaults from Wikidata it only shows a Wikimedia Commons link - and when this happens, the box format changes to match the format of the Commons category box, except that it's missing the period normally included at the end of the sentence. (See examples at right)

Inline version

the automatic linking is very convinient, would it be possible to make an inline version of this template similarly to say {{Commons-inline}} and {{Wiktionary-inline}}? Juwan (talk) 02:28, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

@Moxy (sorry for the delay). I prefer to have sister project links to be created automatically whenever possible (same reason why we use Wikidata instead of adding interwiki links to every page), and most pages only have one or two at most. however, WP:MOSSIS suggests using inline templates when it is not aesthetically pleasing, either because there are no external links except sister project ones, or because they result in an odd layout. this then would be a very helpful tool for my work. @Hike395 a simple example is if you are on the page for George Washinton and say you decide that you want to insert the project links inline, then you could place the requested {{Sister project auto-inline}} and then it outputs:

• Media related to George Washinton at Wikimedia Commons
• Quotations related to George Washinton at Wikiquote
• Works by or about George Washinton at Wikisource

I see. I don't think we need a new template to do that: if you cannot use {{sister project links}} because there is no room in the article, then you can use {{sister bar}} to generate a navbox at the bottom of the article. Unusual artifact in Atlanta article

Horizontal layout possible?

Request: Can someone create a version of this that is a horizontal layout (like a navbox at bottom of the article)? I want to use it in the article, but there is no convenient places for a vertical box (either left or right aligned). But if it were available in a horizontal (full page width) variant, I could use it right above the Navboxes. Noleander (talk) 18:26, 17 November 2025 (UTC)

I found a way to get a horizontal layout: with Template:Subject bar, as in: {{Subject bar|auto=1}} . Maybe I'll add it to to this template's information/help. Noleander (talk) 16:05, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

Remove Wikinews or not?

As per the board's decision, Wikinews is going to be closed by 4 May, after that day, I don't see why we still need such links. ~2026-24674-75 (talk) 03:50, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

To clarify --- Wikinews will stop updating and become read-only as of 4 May. The question for editors: should we continue to include non-updating Wikinews in sister links? — hike395 (talk) 10:30, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Template:Wikinews was taken to templates for discussion and there was a strong consensus to deprecate it. So it would make sense to remove the links from this template as well. the wub "?!" 23:33, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
