Disambiguation link notification for August 16
[edit source]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sheila Carter, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Peter Barton. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

[edit source]WP:AFC Helper News
[edit source]Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. General sanctions for Michael Jackson topic
[edit source]This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
Please carefully read this information:

The specific details of these sanctions are described here.
Broadly, general sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

Notice of replacement of your ANI thread
[edit source]Israell, this message is to inform you that I've consolidated your ANI complaint regarding the Nrq9/Magnesum77 dispute into the existing thread. In the future, where a filing has already been made about a given dispute/issues, please do not create a competing thread, but rather raise your concerns in the existing thread. Even if you feel that the original complaint comes from a bad actor, or just a community member who has identified the wrong party as problematic, discussion should be kept in the same place. A subsection for the thread is always an option if you think community consensus in the discussion up until that point has gotten the behavioural analysis wrong. [edit source]You would probably be well advised to withdraw your submission to ArbCom. It will almost certainly be rejected as grossly premature and/or misplaced. ArbCom does not settle content disputes, and you have failed to show that there is any behavioural issue that can't be dealt with through normal processes. - So, an RfC would be best? I was told that arbitration may be a better route. Thanks for the warning. Israell (talk) 15:17, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
- Who told you that? It looks like bad advice to me, since ArbCom won't make any ruling regarding content: an RfC would still be necessary. AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:21, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

Request for arbitration regarding "Rihanna's songwriter occupation"
[edit source]Hello, Israell. In response to your request for arbitration, the Arbitration Committee has decided that arbitration is not required at this stage. Arbitration on Wikipedia is a lengthy, complicated process that involves the unilateral adjudication of a dispute by an elected committee. Although the Committee's decisions can be useful to certain disputes, in many cases the actual process of arbitration is unenjoyable and time-consuming. Moreover, for most disputes the community maintains an effective set of mechanisms for reaching a compromise or resolving a grievance.
For grievances about the conduct of a Wikipedia editor, you should approach the user (in a civil, professional way) on their user talk page. However, other mechanisms for resolving a dispute also exist, such as raising the issue at the administrators' noticeboard for incidents.
In all cases, you should review Wikipedia:Dispute resolution to learn more about resolving disputes on Wikipedia. The English Wikipedia community has many venues for resolving disputes and grievances, and it is important to explore them instead of requesting arbitration in the first instance. For more information on the process of arbitration, please see the Arbitration Policy and the Guide to Arbitration. I hope this advice is useful, and please do not hesitate to contact me or a member of the clerks if you have more questions. EggRoll97 (talk) 15:39, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update. I already tried dispute resolution. I even had to file an edit-warring report (for breach of the three-revert rule). The talk page discussion, after four months, has become redundant as certain users now demand a level of details that is impossible to provide. I'm now seeking an RfC. Israell (talk) 16:49, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
- You tried DRN, and the other party declined to participate. You were then advised to try an RFC, and you made a request for assistance that was difficult to understand because it was mostly about what the other editor did. You apparently were also advised by someone to try arbitration, and you went ahead with a request for arbitration without asking anyone else whether that was a good idea. Some of us would be interested in who gave you bad advice. However, if you are receiving advice from different people and trying to take different advice at the same time, you can get your actions tied up in knots in different directions. That seems to be what you did, taking bad advice that conflicted with the advice you were getting. I would still like to know who gave you the bad advice, although I know that you probably won't say, because you may be relying on them for future bad advice. I am asking. However, I won't be ready to help you now, because you might rely on bad advice in the middle of following my advice. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:45, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, an editor told me that arbitration might be a better route. That editor told me that off-Wiki (off-Wiki convos are permitted as long as it's not for canvassing, sock-puppetry or meat-puppetry purposes). That said, after being told it was not such a good idea, I withdrew my request.
- The problem here is that I've provided sufficient documentation for the inclusion of "songwriter" in the lede and infobox (the body of the article mentions Rihanna's songwriting, so there's more context), but that editor still persists in not allowing that inclusion. Why?
- Billboard magazine literally calls Rihanna a "songwriter" [1]. The Academy Awards nominated Rihanna for music composition of the song "Lift Me Up" [2]. Rihanna once (alongside Future and DJ Khaled) won R&B/Hip-Hop Songwriter of the Year at the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards [3]. American Songwriter published an article on five songs that Rihanna wrote for other artists [4]. And I've provided even more reliable sources, incl. multiple documentation that delves into Rihanna's songwriting process, esp. when it comes to lyrics.
- But that editor and another editor now want a level of details that is impossible to provide such as what exactly Rihanna composed in "Lift Me Up." That song has two lyricists (excl. Rihanna) and four composers (incl. Rihanna). That, I can reliably state (and it passes WP:V). But I cannot state in detail what Rihanna composed in that piece of music. That's not how collaborative pop songwriting is documented! You can understand how that demand of those few editors is not reasonable.
- As for their assumptions or hearsay that Rihanna generally only writes one word or one line to get a songwriting credit, that's pure speculation, and that goes against WP:NOR and WP:NPOV. It is not proper for the editing of that article to be based on such speculation. It is honestly not proper!
- And there's the documented fact that Rihanna now has over 130 songwriting credits (excl. duplicates) [5]. Israell (talk) 02:12, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
- There is no point whatsoever in arguing about this here. That is what the article talk page is for. If that fails, we have dispute resolution processes - including RfC. AndyTheGrump (talk) 02:20, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
- I've stated all of that on the article talk page already, but they don't care! They insist of pushing their personal POV that Rihanna is not a "true" songwriter and that her songwriting credits are bogus, and they insist I provide documentation that is not publicly available.
- The exact same thing unfolded on the Beyoncé article years ago. Some editors insisted of pushing their personal POV that Beyoncé was not a "true" songwriter and that her songwriting credits were bogus. It took an RfC just to readd "songwriter" to the lede and infobox.
- I am currently looking into the RfC. Thanks for your assistance. Israell (talk) 02:31, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
